Garage Door Questions, Answered Plain

What We Do Not Take On

We're not a fit for every job, and it's better you hear that up front than after a truck rolls. We don't do new home construction installs where the opening hasn't been framed yet, and we don't do commercial rolling steel doors or fire-rated doors - those need a different kind of crew and parts we don't carry. We also don't touch gates, fences, or anything that isn't a residential garage door and its hardware.

If your door is original to a house built in the 1970s or 80s, parts for some of those older torsion setups can be slow to source, and we'll tell you that honestly before we quote the job rather than stringing you along. Sometimes replacement is the better call than chasing a part for a 40-year-old track system.

We also won't tell you a repair will outlast a door that's structurally shot. If the panels are rusted through or the track is bent past straightening, we'll say so instead of patching something that'll fail again in six months. That's not us trying to upsell - it's just what we've seen hold up and what doesn't, across the housing stock in this part of the county.

The Work We Take On

Most of what we see are springs, openers, cables, rollers, and track alignment on single-family homes. Across the service area, housing runs mostly 1970s through the mid-2000s, with a lot of it built in the 1980s and 90s - median build year sits around 1992. That means most doors we work on are steel sectional doors on extension or torsion springs, not the older one-piece doors you'd find on much older housing stock elsewhere.

We work in Kennesaw and the surrounding area, including Town Center and Addison Heights nearby, and out to Fair Oaks, Emerson, Powder Springs, Hiram, Holly Springs, Mountain Park, Austell, Vinings, Lithia Springs, and Euharlee. Winters here are cold enough that metal contracts and grease stiffens, which shows up as a slow-opening door or a spring that finally lets go on a January morning rather than mid-summer. We see that pattern every cold snap.

Broken spring replacement, opener swaps, bent track repair, off-track doors, worn rollers and cables, and panel replacement on dented sections are the bulk of the calls. If your door is sticking, grinding, or reversing on its own, that's squarely what we do.

Plain Answers

A lot of the calls we get start with the same handful of questions, so here they are without the runaround. How old is too old for a repair? It depends more on condition than age, but doors from the earlier end of the 1970-2007 build range sometimes need parts that take longer to track down.

Do you work on openers too, not just the door itself? Yes - opener repair and replacement is a regular part of the job, separate from spring or track work.

Why did my spring break in cold weather and not summer? Cold makes the metal less forgiving, and a spring near the end of its cycle life often goes during the first hard cold snap rather than waiting for warmer months.

Do you serve my specific neighborhood? If you're within the area we listed above - from Kennesaw out through Town Center, Addison Heights, and the surrounding towns - yes. Outside that radius, call first and ask rather than assuming.

We're at 200 Chastain Center Blvd, Kennesaw, GA 30144, and you can reach us at (770) 230-5945 with the specifics of what your door is doing.

Frequently asked questions

Do you install new garage doors on homes under construction?

No. We work on existing residential garage doors that are already installed - repair, replacement of components, and full door swaps on homes that are already built. New construction framing and first-time installs aren't something we take on.

Why does my spring keep breaking in winter?

Cold weather stiffens the metal and grease in the system, and a spring that's near the end of its life often breaks on a cold morning rather than holding on until summer. It's not bad luck - it's just when the weakest point finally gives.

Is my door too old to repair?

Age alone doesn't rule it out, but houses built on the earlier end of the local 1970-2007 range sometimes have hardware that's harder to source parts for. We'll tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense than chasing an old part.

Do you come out to Powder Springs or Austell?

Yes, both are within the area we cover, along with Fair Oaks, Emerson, Hiram, Holly Springs, Mountain Park, Vinings, Lithia Springs, and Euharlee. Call ahead with your address if you're near the edge of that range.

What if my door is beyond repair?

We'll say so rather than patch something that'll fail again soon. If panels are rusted through or the track is bent past straightening, replacement is usually the more honest answer than a repair that won't last.
